Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Scribelet application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”) operated by Scribelet (“we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Account Terms

You must be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age required by applicable law in your jurisdiction, to use Scribelet.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. Scribelet cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to maintain account security.
You must provide accurate, complete information when creating your account and keep it up to date.
You may not use the Service for any illegal or unauthorised purpose.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Abuse, harass, or threaten others through the Service.
Upload or store content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes on the intellectual property rights of others.
Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
Use automated means (bots, scrapers, etc.) to access the Service without our prior written consent.
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other accounts, servers, or networks connected to the Service.
Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

4. Intellectual Property

Your content: You retain full ownership of all notes, files, and other content you create or upload to Scribelet. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content. You grant us a limited licence to host, store, display, transmit, and process your content solely to provide the Service to you.

Our platform: The Service, including its design, code, logos, and documentation, is owned by Scribelet and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute any part of the platform without our written permission.

5. AI Features

Scribelet includes AI-powered features such as chat, automatic tagging, background checks, and memory extraction. These features are provided as productivity aids and their outputs are suggestions only — not professional advice. AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying any AI output before relying on it.

AI features may use third-party providers. When you bring your own API key (BYOK), your data is sent to the provider you selected and is subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy.

6. Subscription & Billing

Scribelet offers free and paid subscription plans. Paid plans are billed on a monthly or annual cycle, as selected at checkout. By subscribing to a paid plan you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Prices are displayed in your local currency where possible and include applicable taxes unless otherwise stated.
You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Downgrading to the free plan does not delete your existing data — your notes and content remain accessible.
If you cancel, you retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

7. Refund Policy

We want you to be happy with Scribelet. You may request a refund within 14 days of your initial purchase or any renewal. Refunds are processed in accordance with our payment provider's buyer terms.

Mobile in-app purchases: Subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store are subject to the refund policies of those platforms. Please contact Apple or Google directly for in-app purchase refunds.

To request a refund, email support@scribelet.app with your account email and the reason for your request. We aim to process refunds within 5–10 business days.

8. Data & Privacy

Your privacy matters to us. Please review our Privacy & Cookie Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your data. Your notes are encrypted at rest and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection laws. You have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data at any time. You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@scribelet.app.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, your data will be permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days. Residual copies in backups and logs may take up to an additional 90 days to be fully purged. We may retain data longer only where required by law.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or engage in activity that harms the Service or other users. In such cases, we will notify you by email at least 7 days in advance and provide an opportunity to export your data, unless immediate action is necessary to protect the Service or other users.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times. We are not liable for any data loss — you are encouraged to maintain your own backups.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Scribelet's total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

12. Force Majeure

We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform our obligations under these Terms caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, infrastructure outages, third-party API or service failures, government actions, or internet disruptions.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of Sweden. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence and to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.

16. iOS App Store Additional Terms

If you download or use Scribelet on an Apple iOS device through the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply and, in the event of any conflict with the rest of these Terms, prevail with respect to your use of the iOS app:

Parties. These Terms are concluded between you and Scribelet only, not Apple Inc. (“Apple”). Scribelet, not Apple, is solely responsible for the iOS app and its content.
Scope of licence. The iOS app is licensed, not sold, to you on a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable basis for use only on Apple-branded products that you own or control, and as permitted by the Usage Rules set forth in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the iOS app. Any maintenance or support for the iOS app is solely Scribelet's responsibility.
Warranty. Scribelet, not Apple, is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, that are not effectively disclaimed. In the event of any failure of the iOS app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the iOS app to you (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the iOS app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are Scribelet's sole responsibility.
Product claims. Scribelet, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims you or any third party may have relating to the iOS app or your possession or use of it, including but not limited to: (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that the iOS app fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
Intellectual property infringement. In the event of any third-party claim that the iOS app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Scribelet, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
Third-party beneficiary. You acknowledge and agree that Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of these Terms.
Compliance with third-party terms. You must comply with all applicable third-party terms of agreement (for example, your wireless data service agreement) when using the iOS app.
Auto-renewing subscriptions. Subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are billed by Apple to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew at the listed price unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
