Note templates

Copy-paste structures for meetings, journals, projects, research and study notes. Every template comes with situation-specific examples and a way to run it inside Scribelet.

72 templates. Each one is plain Markdown, so it works in any notes app.

Planning

Brain Dump Template

A brain dump only helps if the list goes somewhere afterwards. This template is two parts: fifteen minutes of writing everything down without order, then a sort that sends each item to a task, a decision, a project, someday, or the bin. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your week.

Study

Cornell Notes Template

Cornell notes split a page into three jobs: notes during class, cue questions afterwards, and a short summary at the bottom. This version is plain Markdown, so the cues sit above each section of notes instead of in a margin. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your class.

Journals

Daily Journal Template

Seven minutes a day: two in the morning to name what matters, five in the evening to write what happened and what you noticed. Copy the daily journal template, or read the five entries below to see it filled in on very different days.

Meetings

Meeting Agenda Template

An agenda is a promise about how the time will be spent: what the meeting must produce, which topics get how many minutes, and who owns each one. Copy the template, or start from the agenda example closest to your meeting.

Meetings

Meeting Minutes Template

Minutes are the official record: who was there, what was moved, how the vote went, and what was decided. Not a transcript. Copy the template, or start from the minutes example closest to your meeting, then read how approval works.

Meetings

Meeting Notes Template

One structure that captures the three things people come back for: what was decided, who owns what by when, and the context that made the decision make sense. Copy it as-is, or pick the example closest to your meeting.

Engineering 4

Engineering

Post Mortem Template for Incidents

A post-mortem is worth writing only if it changes something. This template keeps the timeline factual, pushes the whys to a cause the team can fix, and ends with action items that have owners, dates and a 30-day check. Copy it, or start from the postmortem example closest to your incident.

Engineering

Release Notes Template (and Changelog Template)

Release notes tell users what changed and whether they need to do anything. A changelog records every change, version by version. This template gives you both from the same facts, written once: the changelog as the record, the release note as the version people read.

Engineering

RFC Template for Engineering Teams

An RFC (request for comments) is a short written proposal that asks reviewers to find the problems before the code does. This template adds what most RFC templates leave out: a named approver, a date comments close, and a Decision section, so the review ends instead of trailing off.

Engineering

Runbook Template

A runbook is the page someone follows at 3 a.m. with no context. This template gives every step a literal command and the output to expect, and adds the two fields most templates skip: when the procedure was last verified, and what change would make it wrong.

Journals 8

Journals

Bullet Journal Template

The bullet journal is a method before it is a layout: a key of quick symbols, a future log, a monthly log, a daily log, collections, and the habit of migrating unfinished tasks by hand. This template sets up all of it in plain Markdown, with the paper symbol next to its digital version.

Journals

Daily Journal Template

Seven minutes a day: two in the morning to name what matters, five in the evening to write what happened and what you noticed. Copy the daily journal template, or read the five entries below to see it filled in on very different days.

Journals

Daily Log Template

A daily log is a timestamped record of one day: what you planned, what happened, what came up, and where tomorrow starts. Copy the template below, or start from the daily log example closest to your day.

Journals

Dream Journal Template

A dream entry has about three minutes before it fades. This template puts the dream itself first, then the details that make patterns visible later: people, places, feelings, dream signs and what happened the day before. Copy it, or start from the example closest to the dreams you have.

Journals

Gratitude Journal Examples and Template

Good gratitude entries are specific, say why the good thing happened, and do not pretend the hard parts are fine. Below are five gratitude journal examples from very different weeks, a template built on those three rules, and a five minute journal version for mornings and evenings.

Journals

Journal Entry Examples

Five personal journal entries written by different people on very different days, from a five-line note after a double shift to an unsent letter. Use the short format below to write yours; if you came for accounting journal entries with debits and credits, this page is about personal journals, not bookkeeping.

Journals

Reflective Journal Template and Reflection Examples

A reflection describes what happened, works out why, and commits to one thing you will do differently. The examples below show that move in five different settings, and the template keeps each entry honest by checking last time's action first.

Journals

Year in Review Template

A personal year in review is built from evidence, not memory: read the year back month by month, then write what went well, what did not, who mattered and what changes next year. Copy the template, or start from the example closest to the year you had.

Meetings 8

Meetings

Board Meeting Minutes Template

Board minutes are the legal record of what the board did: who was present, what was resolved, how each director voted, and what happened in executive session without saying what was said. Copy the template, or start from the nonprofit, HOA or company example.

Meetings

One on One Meeting Template

A 1:1 belongs to the report, not the manager. This template gives the report the first word, carries last meeting's actions forward, and keeps a growth conversation on the calendar. Copy it, or start from the one on one notes example closest to your situation.

Meetings

Project Kickoff Meeting Template

A kickoff meeting should leave behind one page everyone can point to later: why the project exists, what success looks like, what is in and out of scope, who decides what, and which assumptions could sink it. This template is the agenda before the meeting and that page after it.

Meetings

Sprint Retrospective Template

A retrospective is only as good as what changes afterwards. This template opens by checking whether last retro's actions worked, grounds the discussion in sprint facts, and ends with at most two actions, each with an owner, a date and a sign that it worked.

Meetings

Standup Meeting Template

Blockers first, one line per person for done and next, and a parking lot for everything that needs more than thirty seconds. This daily standup template also tracks how many days each blocker has been open, which is the number most standups never write down.

Planning 11

Planning

Brain Dump Template

A brain dump only helps if the list goes somewhere afterwards. This template is two parts: fifteen minutes of writing everything down without order, then a sort that sends each item to a task, a decision, a project, someday, or the bin. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your week.

Planning

Daily Planner Template

One page per day: yesterday's leftovers, three priorities, the hours that are already spoken for, everything else, and a five-minute check at the end. It is plain Markdown, so it pastes into any notes app or document and prints from there.

Planning

Decision Matrix Template

A weighted decision matrix scores each option against the criteria that matter, multiplied by how much each one matters. This template adds the two steps that make the total trustworthy: pass-or-fail must-haves before scoring, and a check of whether the winner survives a small change in weights. Copy it, or use the pros and cons version for a yes-or-no choice.

Planning

Goal Setting Template

Most goal templates are a page you fill in once in January. This one is a chain: a few life goals, three for the year, one milestone each per quarter, and three weekly goals that move them. Copy it whole, or use only the level you need today.

Planning

Habit Tracker Template

A grid of checkmarks only works until the first bad week. This habit tracker template adds the two things most printables leave out: a minimum version of each habit for hard days, and a rule for what happens after a miss. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your week.

Planning

SMART Goals Examples

A SMART goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. The quickest way to write one is to see a vague goal rewritten next to it. Below are five, for very different lives, each with the baseline, checkpoints and a plan for when it slips. The worksheet walks you through your own.

Planning

Time Blocking Template

A time-blocked day assigns every task a slot, then leaves room for the plan to break. This template adds buffers, a flex block and a re-plan section, so an interruption at 11:10 changes the afternoon instead of ending the plan. Plain Markdown: paste it into any notes app or document, or print it.

Planning

To Do List Template

A to-do list stops working when everything on it looks equally urgent. This template sorts tasks by when they matter (today, this week, waiting on someone, someday), so the top of the list is always the next thing to do. It is plain Markdown: paste it into any notes app or document, or print it.

Planning

Trip Planning Template

Most trip plans stop being useful the day you leave. This one keeps going: bookings and confirmation numbers, a day-by-day plan, a budget with actual spending, a before-you-go checklist, and a short travel journal for each day of the trip. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your trip.

Planning

Weekly Planner Template

One page for the week: what carried over, three outcomes, the dates that cannot move, a short plan per day and a ten-minute review on Friday. It is plain Markdown, so it pastes into any notes app or document and prints from there.

Planning

Weekly Review Template

A weekly review is 45 minutes that stops small things from going stale: clear the inboxes, look back honestly, check every project has a next step, then choose three priorities for next week. Copy the template, or start from the weekly review example closest to your week.

Product 7

Product

Bug Report Template

A good bug report lets someone who has never seen the problem make it happen on their own machine. This template covers the fields every bug report template has (steps, expected, actual, environment, severity) and adds the ones most leave out: how often it reproduces, whether it is a regression, and the workaround.

Product

Competitor Analysis Template

A competitor analysis is only useful if it changes a decision. This template starts from the question you need answered, compares three or four competitors with a source and date on every claim, and ends with decisions, owners and a review date. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your market.

Product

PRD Template (Product Requirements Document)

A PRD (product requirements document) says what problem a release solves, for whom, how you will know it worked, and what it deliberately will not do. This template keeps it short enough to be read, and adds what most PRD templates leave out: a status, a decision log, and open questions with owners and dates.

Product

Product Roadmap Template

A roadmap is a promise about priorities, not a schedule. This template ties every initiative to a goal, says how confident you are in each date, keeps a visible list of what you are not doing, and logs every change with its reason. Copy it as-is, or start from the roadmap example closest to your audience.

Product

Sprint Planning Template

Sprint planning goes wrong in two places: the team commits to last sprint's velocity with this sprint's people, and unfinished work rolls over without anyone deciding it should. This template does the capacity math in the open, makes a decision on every carried-over item, and ends with a sprint goal someone could check on demo day.

Product

User Interview Template

A user interview note is only useful if a teammate can tell what the participant said from what you concluded. This template keeps verbatim quotes, observed behavior and your interpretation in separate sections, ends with a three-line snapshot, and links every session to one study note for synthesis.

Product

User Story Template with Acceptance Criteria

The format is one line: As a [role], I want [capability] so that [outcome]. The line is the easy part. This template adds what makes a story buildable: Given/When/Then acceptance criteria, edge cases, what is out of scope, and an INVEST check before it enters a sprint.

Projects 4

Projects

Lessons Learned Template

Most lessons learned documents are written once and never read again. This template compares plan to actual, writes each lesson as an instruction for next time with its evidence, and ends by naming the checklist, template or estimate each lesson should change.

Projects

Project Brief Template

A project brief fits on one page and gets a yes: what problem this solves, what will be true when it is done, what is in and out, what it costs, and who approves it. Copy the template, or start from the example closest to your project.

Projects

Project Plan Template

A project plan says what will be true when the project is done, what is in and out of scope, which milestones get you there by when, who owns each one, and what could go wrong. This template adds the part most plans skip: a dated record of every change.

Projects

Project Status Report Template

A status report tells readers in thirty seconds whether the project is on track, what changed since last time, and what you need from them. This template defines green, amber and red up front, so the color means the same thing every week.

Research 4

Research

Annotated Bibliography Template

Each entry is a full citation in your assigned style followed by a short paragraph that summarizes the source, judges it, and says where it fits in your argument. Copy the template, then use the example closest to your course and citation style.

Research

Lab Notebook Examples and Template

A good lab notebook entry lets someone else repeat your work and see what you saw: what you meant to do, what you actually did, the raw numbers, the calculations, and what you will do next. Below are five complete entries from different kinds of labs and the template they share.

Research

Literature Review Template

A literature review is an argument about what is known, built from sources, not a list of summaries. This template takes you from scope and search, through a source matrix, to one section per theme with agreement, disagreement and gaps. Pick the example organized the way your sources group.

Research

Research Notes Template

Research notes go wrong in two ways: you cannot tell where a claim came from, or you cannot tell whether it is still true. This template ties every finding to a source and a confidence level, keeps observation apart from interpretation, and records when you last checked.

Study 8

Study

Book Summary Template for Book Notes

A book summary is worth writing when it answers three questions a year later: what was the argument or story, what did I make of it, and what did I change because of it. Copy the template, or start from the example closest to the book on your nightstand.

Study

Case Brief Template

A case brief is one page of your own notes on a judicial opinion: who sued whom, what the court was asked, the rule it applied, what it held and why. Copy the template, then compare it with the sample brief closest to your course.

Study

Class Notes Template

One note per class session, linked to one note per course. The template captures what the lecture was trying to answer, the key points in your words, the questions you still have, and what is due next. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your class.

Study

Cornell Notes Template

Cornell notes split a page into three jobs: notes during class, cue questions afterwards, and a short summary at the bottom. This version is plain Markdown, so the cues sit above each section of notes instead of in a margin. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your class.

Study

IEP Meeting Notes Template

The IEP is the school's document. Your notes are the record of what was proposed, refused and promised in the room, and they are what you will reach for when the final IEP arrives and something looks different. This template keeps the numbers, the service minutes and the open disagreements in one place.

Study

Lesson Plan Template

A lesson plan answers four questions before you teach: what students will be able to do, how you will know, what happens minute by minute, and what changes for students who need it. Copy the template, or start from the example closest to your grade and subject.

Study

Reading Log Template

A reading log is a running list: what you read, when, how far you got, and one line on what you thought. Copy the template below for a year of books, or pick the example that matches you: an adult goal, a child's nightly minutes, a book club, or one long book on a deadline.

Study

Study Planner Template

A study planner has two parts: a map of everything due this term, and a short list of what you will actually do this week. This template keeps both in one note, with an assignment tracker, exam dates, weekly sessions and a Sunday check-in. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your term.

Work 16

Work

30-60-90 Day Plan Template

A 30-60-90 day plan splits your first three months into learn, contribute and lead, with goals your manager agrees to and a review at the end of each phase. Copy the template, or start from the example closest to your role.

Work

Client Notes Template

Client notes have two readers: the client, who gets the recap, and you in six months, who needs the history. This template splits every meeting into a shareable recap and a private section, and links it to one note per client that works as a lightweight personal CRM.

Work

Coaching Session Notes Template

Coaching and mentoring session notes (not therapy notes) follow one client toward one goal over several sessions. This template opens with last session's commitments, records what came up and what the client realized, and ends with new commitments and a private reflection.

Work

Conference Notes Template

Most conference notes are written once and never opened again. This template captures three points in your own words, the claims worth checking, the people to follow up with and one next step, so the session still pays off a month later. It works the same for a live talk, a podcast episode or a course video.

Work

Decision Log Template

A decision log is a running record of what was decided, why, by whom, and what you expected to happen. This template adds the two fields most logs leave out: who disagreed, and a date to check whether the decision worked. Copy it for a team, or use the decision journal example for your own choices.

Work

Handoff Document Template

A handoff fails on the things nobody wrote down: the promise made in a hallway, the decision half made, the warning sign only the outgoing person knows. This handoff document template has a section for each, and ends with a read-back so you know the handover landed. Copy it, or start from the handover notes example closest to yours.

Work

Interview Notes Template

Good interview notes record what the candidate said and did, rate it against the competency you were asked to assess, and end with one recommendation and one reason. Copy the interviewer template below, or start from the example closest to your round, including two for candidates preparing and debriefing.

Work

Knowledge Base Template

A knowledge base is a set of pages, one topic each, that link to each other and stay true. This template gives every page a short answer, an owner, a review date and its links, whether the knowledge base is for a team or only for you. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your situation.

Work

OKR Examples and Template

An OKR is one qualitative objective and three to five key results with a baseline and a target. Most examples stop at the first day of the quarter. These five go further: weekly check-ins, a personal OKR, and a quarter scored honestly at the end. The template keeps all of it in one note.

Work

Onboarding Checklist Template

Most onboarding checklists list tasks. This one gives each task an owner and a due date, adds a Done when section so everyone knows when onboarding is over, and keeps open issues in one place. Copy it, or start from the filled-in checklist closest to the hire you are making.

Work

One Pager Template

A one-pager exists to get one decision from a reader who will give it two minutes. This template puts the ask at the top, gives every section a word budget so the whole thing fits on a page, and keeps the detail in a linked appendix. Copy it, or start from the filled-in one-pager closest to yours.

Work

Performance Review Template

A performance review template is only as fair as its rating scale and its evidence. This one defines each rating level in the template itself, ties every goal to a result and a source, and leaves room for the employee to disagree in writing. Copy it, or start from the example closest to the review you have to write.

Work

Personal Development Plan Template

A personal development plan names where you are, where you want to be in a year or so, and no more than three things you will work on to get there. This template adds what most plans skip: a monthly check, a quarterly rewrite, and a rule for plans that stall. Copy it, or start from the example closest to your situation.

Work

Self Evaluation Examples and Template

Most self evaluation examples are single sentences. Below are five complete self reviews, each for a different kind of year, with goals, evidence, what went wrong and a self-rating with its reason. Pick the one closest to your year, then use the self evaluation template to write your own.

Work

SOP Template (Standard Operating Procedure)

An SOP is only useful if a person who has never done the task can follow it and get the same result. This template puts the trigger, the checks and the escalation path next to the steps, and gives every procedure an owner and a review date so it does not quietly go stale.

Work

Work Log Template

A work log records what you did, what it produced, and what got in the way, written on the day while the details are still there. Copy the template, keep the hours line if you bill time, and pick the work log example closest to your job.
